Important Information About Your Bill

You will receive separate bills for services provided at Mills-Peninsula by doctors in these specialties:

Emergency
Radiology
Anesthesiology
Pathology


Q. Why will I receive more than one bill even though I had all my services at Mills-Peninsula?
Answer: The doctors who provide services in the departments listed above are independent contractors. They do their own billing.

Q. How many bills will I receive?
Answer: Mills-Peninsula will send you a bill for services other than those provided by a doctor. The doctors who provide services in these departments will send you separate bills.

Q. Don’t the doctors work for Mills-Peninsula?
Answer: No. They are independent contractors.

Q. Will my insurance pay for services these doctors provide?
Answer: That depends on your health plan. Even if your insurance covers the non-physician services you receive in these Mills-Peninsula departments, doctors’ services may not be covered.

Q. My insurance plan covers services I get at Mills-Peninsula. Aren’t the doctors in these departments part of the same deal?
Answer: No. The doctors who provide services in these departments have their own separate contracts with health plans. Although they have contracts with most of the same insurance companies as Mills-Peninsula, you should check with your health plan for specific information. Some services may not be covered.

Q. How can I find out if my insurance will pay for services provided by the doctors in these departments?
Answer: Contact your health plan. The private physician who referred you for these services also may be able to help. The employee registering patients does not have that information.
