The Women's Center was one of 11 sites nationwide selected to participate in a pilot survey conducted by the National Accreditation Programs for Breast Centers (NAPBC), according to Brian Henderson, M.D., of the Dorothy E. Schneider Cancer Center.

"Andrea Metkus, M.D., medical director for breast cancer services was instrumental in Mills-Peninsula's selection and in leading the team to prepare for the survey conducted May 14," Dr. Henderson said.

The purpose of the survey was to allow the NAPBC to test drive its program across the country. Participating centers completed a 20-page application, underwent a one-day survey and received feedback about their programs.

"We received a letter July 9 stating that the Women's Center would qualify for a three-year accreditation as a comprehensive evaluation and management center based on current NAPBC standards," Dr. Henderson said.
