Mills-Peninsula earned the Gold Seal of Approvalâ„¢ for stroke care in October 2006 from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). JCAHO awarded Mills-Peninsula Primary Stroke Center Certification following a rigorous two-day on-site review.

Mills-Peninsula was the first hospital in San Mateo County to be certified as a primary stroke center. Only 22 hospitals statewide have earned the distinction. Mills-Peninsula received certification in four areas of care -- in the emergency department, acute care, acute rehabilitation and Senior Focus. Most institutions earn certification in one area.

Getting help quickly at the first warning sign of stroke is critical for successful treatment and recovery. Mills-Peninsula's trained stroke treatment team provides prompt diagnosis and treatment, including the most advanced medications to dissolve clots.
